Taipei, Nov. 4 (CNA) Taiwan’s Deputy Economics Minister Chen Chern-chyi (陳正祺) departed for London on Saturday for the 26th U.K.-Taiwan Trade Talks, which aims to enhance economic resilience and supply chain collaboration, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).

The meeting, to be jointly hosted by Chen and U.K. Minister of State for International Trade Nigel Huddleston, will also cover cooperation in the realms of energy, semiconductor and scientific research, the MOEA said in a statement.

Both sides will build on the progress achieved following the signing of a memorandum of understanding during the 2022 talks and boost two-way innovation collaboration, such as introducing joint projects that focus on next-generation communication, semiconductor technology, electric vehicles and renewable energy, according to the ministry.

Regarding energy, the two countries will also engage in discussions on topics such as net-zero policies, low-carbon hydrogen and offshore wind power, with the aim of progressing toward the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, it said.

Chen, who will stay in the city until Nov. 6, will also meet with Taiwanese business people and local industry representatives to exchange views and promote investing in Taiwan, the MOEA said.

Trade between Taiwan and Britain totaled US$6.6 billion in 2022, which was a 10-year high, the ministry said, adding that the U.K. is Taiwan’s third-largest trading partner in Europe.
